Educational Objectives:
Creative class of Materials Science is dedicated to preparing the senior research professionals specialized on materials science and engineering field with higher synthesis quality, stronger creativity consciousness and capacity. They are wished to have proficient facility in foreign language and computer application, be master of solid theoretical basis and systematic professional knowledge, be strong in independent scientific research ability, and meanwhile be well developed morally, intellectually and physically.
Objective 1:[Foundations]
To generate a solid understanding of the fundamental knowledge of materials science and engineering discipline, in particular, the interrelationships of composition-processing-structure-properties in materials; to study various characterization methods and their applications in different materials, and acquire practical skills in designing, fabricating, processing, testing and evaluating of materials.
Objective 2:[Professional Knowledge]
To develop and improve problem-solving expertise in scientific research and engineering practices using professional knowledge and methodology of materials science and engineering.
Objective 3:[Teamwork/Leadership]
To develop communication and cooperation skills for team work, and gain project management abilities in the field of materials science and engineering.

To realize the important role of materials science and engineering in national economy, science and technology aspects; to become professionals in solving materials-related theoretical and/or technical problems through training and practice.

专业特色:
材料科学与工程为国家一级重点学科,拥有由中科院院士、长江学者为特色组建的教师队伍,在秉承传统材料的人才培养优势的基础上,与高新技术材料相辅相成,在新兴前沿交叉学科,如光电材料与器件、高分子功能材料、高性能建筑材料、生物医学材料、金属新材料等领域的教学、科研和开发工作迅速发展。材料类创新班(本科-硕士-博士连读)在本科阶段实行“厚基础、深专业、高素质、强创新”培养,以材料微观结构与性能关系的核心理论为主要专业基础,培养学生掌握应用于机械、汽车、钢铁、石化、能源、建筑、交通等传统产业以及航空航天、电子信息和生物工程等高新技术产业领域的材料设计、制备及检测技术,并掌握应用材料制造器件及产品的理论和工艺技术,为攻读更高学历奠定坚实的基础。
Speciality Features:
Materials Science and Engineering is one of the key disciplines at the national level, which possesses the teacher ranks specially set up by a number of Academicians of Chinese Academic of Science and Yangtze River Scholars. Based on adhering to the advantage of talents training for traditional materials and been supplementary to each other with materials of high and new technology, the subject has its rapid development of instruction, scientific research and exploiture in the area of emerging advanced-edge interdisciplinary such as Optoelectronic Materials and Devices, Polymer Functional Materials, High Performance Building Materials, Biomedical Materials and New Metal Materials, etc. Creative class of Materials Science (involving undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral continuously study) provides education of wide professional knowledge and relies the main specialty foundation on essential theories of relationship between micro structure and performance. The aims of it are to train students to grasp the technologies of materials design, manufacture and detection applied both in traditional industries (machinery, automobile, iron and steel, petrifaction, energy, construction and transportation industry, etc) and high-tech industries (aerospace, electronic information and biological engineering, etc), master the theory and technical skills of manufacturing components and products of application materials and lay the firm foundation in order to achieve a higher degree.
