On the last Saturday in March every year, a number of famous cities will turn off lights for one hour. Do you know why? Maybe you have gotten it. The activity is in memory of the festival of Earth hour. But how much do you learn about Earth hour? Let’s talk about something about it.
Earth hour was launched in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature which is the world’s largest non-governmental organization. WWF expects individual, community, enterprises, and government to turn off lights for one hour that night, in order to reduce the carbon emissions and deal with the issue of global climate together.
Sydney firstly participated in the action on March 31, 2007. About 2.2 million residents closed their lights. Moreover, some famous buildings in Sydney, such as Harbor Bridge and opera house, plunged into darkness for one hour.
